You can mutter about the "status quo" all you want, the cold hard truth is there hasn't been a new Mega Man game. I'm bitter about CAPCOM never releasing a genuine real game. The post is largely irrelevant to the topic. In case you haven't noticed, they're suffering pretty heavily right now and it isn't because of no Mega Man. So if a new Mega Man game gets announced, Capcom is not going to take a risk like they did with X7, and they certainly aren't going to try and push into the sales death vortex that is Legends 3. Which was back when it didn't have a title and wasn't yet called Rockman.

The only time Mega Man has ever been anywhere close to a proper passion project is probably around the time Capcom actually hated the brand. I'm not going to mention how a majority of those games share the same core gameplay amongst each other. Mega Man pulled off 7 main series games on the NES (1-6, Rockboard), 5 main series games on the Game Boy (MM-MMV), 6 main games on the SNES (7, & Forte, X1-X3, Soccer), 1 for the Mega Drive\Genesis and 1 for the Game Gear, some of which chewed into the 15 total PS1 games (8, X4-X6, Battle & Chase, Super Adventure, Complete Works 1-6, Legends & 2, Tron Bonne), at the end of which came another whole series, ultimately resulting in 12 games (1 rerelease, 7 Battle Networks, 4 Zeros, not to mention the anime insanity that Battle Network kicked up in it's wake) while there were also 6 Mega Man-related titles on PS2 (3 effective compilations, X7, X8, Command Mission) and then at the end of it all we have 7 games on the DS (Zero collection, ZX & Advent, Star Force 1 - 3, and Battle Network 5 DS) and it's no wonder the brand died of saturation that it took years before Mega Man 9 and 10 were released.
